Our Story

There is no founding legend on this page, because none is documented. What is documented is why recreational vehicle bodywork split away from automotive bodywork, what a 35,000 square foot floor allows that a small shop cannot, and why this trade settled in north Orange County rather than at the coast.

What is missing from this page and why

Company history pages in this trade tend to open with a year, a founder and a story about a single bay that grew. None of that is written here, because no source available to this site establishes a founding date, a founder, an ownership change or a milestone that could be cited. Inventing one would be easy and would also be the first sentence a careful reader stops believing.

What can be told honestly is the story of the work and the story of the building. Those two explain more about what a repair here looks like than a founding year ever would, and unlike a founding year they are both checkable: the trade history is public, and the building is at an address you can drive to during posted hours.

Where recreational vehicle bodywork stopped being automotive bodywork

A car is a stamped steel shell, spot welded, dipped in an electrocoat bath, and documented to the seam. When a modern sedan is hit, the manufacturer publishes where to section a rail, what adhesive to use, what torque to apply and what has to be recalibrated afterwards. A collision technician working on cars is following a procedure written by the people who built the vehicle.

A coach is a different object entirely. A sidewall is typically a bonded sandwich: an outer skin of moulded fiberglass or aluminium, a layer of foam or block insulation, a lattice of aluminium or timber studs, and an interior panel, all pressed together with adhesive rather than fastened. Nobody publishes a sectioning procedure for it, because the assembly was never designed to come apart. The technician has to decide where the repair boundary goes.

The consequence shows up in every estimate. On a car, hours come from a database. On a coach, hours come from a judgement about how far the bond broke, and the honest answer at the parking lot stage is that nobody knows yet. That single structural difference is why an RV estimate moves at teardown and an automotive estimate usually does not, and it is why the two trades stopped sharing technicians decades ago.

What thirty five thousand square feet allows that four thousand cannot

A small body shop is three or four bays and a booth sized for a passenger car. It survives on turnover: a vehicle arrives, gets worked, and leaves, and the bay earns again. That model breaks completely on a coach, because the binding constraint in recreational vehicle repair is not skill and it is not tooling. It is floor time.

A coach in teardown occupies its own footprint continuously for the entire lead time of the slowest part on the order. A moulded front cap can be weeks out and ships on a dedicated truck because it cannot be crated small. During that wait the vehicle cannot be moved without reassembling it, and reassembling it to free a bay means paying the labour twice. A shop with four bays cannot absorb that, so it either declines the work or books the coach out and back in, which is how a three week repair becomes a four month one.

Floor area is what removes that decision. Structural work gets scheduled into the wait rather than around it: the bench and the laminating area stay busy on other orders while a cap is somewhere on a highway, and the torn down coach keeps its own footprint until the part lands. That is not a luxury, it is the mechanism that makes an honest calendar possible in the first place.

The geometry that decides which shops can even try

Height is the first filter. A Class A with roof air units and a satellite dome stands well above the door of an ordinary automotive shop, and it cannot go on a two post lift because the frame rails are not where a lift expects them. Length is the second: forty plus feet of vehicle needs a straight approach, a bay long enough to open a rear cap, and room behind it for a technician and a scaffold.

Weight is the third and least discussed. A loaded diesel pusher puts far more mass on a slab than a passenger car does, and a frame bench has to be anchored into concrete that was poured to take it. None of those three constraints can be solved by renting an extra bay for a month, which is the practical reason RV collision work concentrates in a small number of buildings rather than spreading across the shops that already do automotive body repair.

Why this trade settled inland rather than along the coast

Look at where the coaches are stored rather than where the owners live. South Orange County is residential, retail and expensive per square foot, and it has almost no industrial zoning left with parcels deep enough to turn a forty foot vehicle. North Orange County has the yards, the industrial frontage, the freeway junctions and the truck and trailer trades that were already there for the same reasons.

The supply chain reinforces it. Laminate suppliers, glass fabricators, upholstery shops, chassis specialists and the trucking that moves an uncrated cap all cluster inland, and a repair that needs three of them in one week works far better when all three are a short drive rather than a coastal traffic problem. The owner drives inland once. The parts, the vendors and the vehicle stay in one place.

The spread of vehicles that turns up on the same floor

On a given week the floor can hold a 1959 Flxible VL-100 under restoration and a 2025 Sprinter conversion waiting on refinish, with a Rivian in the systems bay. That range is not a boast about versatility, it is a constraint on how the shop has to be equipped. A coach from the late fifties has no published tolerance anywhere, so the structure gets measured against itself and against photographs. A current electric van has high voltage systems, bonded structural panels and driver assistance sensors that need a scan report after a structural repair.

Working both ends of that range in the same building is what keeps the fabrication capability honest. A shop that only handles current production learns to order parts. A shop that regularly handles vehicles whose parts no longer exist learns to make them, and on a discontinued cap that is frequently the faster answer as well as the only one.

What this building still cannot do

The floor does not make the shop good at everything. Engine, transmission and drivetrain rebuild work is not done here, and neither are DOT inspections or emissions testing, so a coach needing a driveline overhaul alongside collision repair is a two shop job and gets described that way from the start rather than discovered halfway through.

The building also cannot make a part exist. On a discontinued moulded cap, fabrication is real work with real hours, and it produces a part that fits and holds rather than a part identical to the original. Owners who need factory correctness on a model that has been out of production for fifteen years are being told an uncomfortable truth here, and it is better told before authorisation than after.
